History

This school was started in response to a request from the professional community of Heavy Engineering Corporation, Hindustan Steel Ltd. and the National Coal Development Corporation, in 1960.

The motto of the school was coined in Sanskrit by Fr. C. Bulcke, when courage to excel by all was considered a contribution towards the building up of one country and one nation[2].

The school is run by the Society of Jesus and provides education for about 1,000 students from kindergarten to standard 12. Plus two (+2) was started in 2000 and was run under the guidance of the late Hira Prasad. The Plus two section is co-educational otherwise the school is a boys-only school until standard 10th.

Until about 1976 the school followed the Cambridge Higher Secondary curriculum and now follows the [[Indian Certificate for Secondary Education][3]] (ICSE) curriculum. Many students from the school leave to join St. Xavier's College, Ranchi or other schools offering education beyond standard 10. The school feeds students into the engineering colleges (IITs and BIT, NIT's ,KIIT etc.) and medical colleges of India[4].

School song

The school song is traditionally sung at the morning assembly. It was originally written by Fr Tucker

Stand up all ye Xaverians
Let's praise our alma mater
Sing to our dear school now
and for always
Let's strive for manly virtues
Smiling when duty calls us
Ready to serve another
Now and for aye

Xavier a galant name
Xavier Doranda's fame
Long may your glory
Every where be spread
School of our high endeavour
School by the shining river
School of our hearts forever
School of the brave

School magazine

The school publishes an annual magazine in English and Hindi. The English magazine goes by the name "Endeavour". The articles are mostly student contributed[5].

Notable alumni

Students and alumni are referred as Xaverians or DOXs[6]. The Old Xaverians are mainly networked through their Yahoo group [7].
